This one-hour recorded asynchronous distance learning course will teach you to create treatment plans and address the documentation needed to stay compliant with insurance requirements, create consistent medical records, and track your therapy progress. Participants will also receive downloadable checklists for treatment plans and progress notes for easy ways to apply the information into practice.

The course is composed of a webinar-style video presentation with a corresponding post-test and course evaluation. Participants must complete both and receive a pass score of at least 80% to receive a certificate of completion.

This course is appropriate for social workers, mental health professionals, and professional counselors.

  • Back to the Basics: Treatment planning

This course is designed to help therapists in a variety of outpatient settings build effective treatment plans to improve their medical documentation skills as well as the intentionality of their practice. Learn practical skills for documentation requirements, gain tools for treatment plan creation, and feel confident in addressing common challenges in the treatment planning process. This includes topics on:

  • What is a treatment plan?

  • Parts of a treatment plan and defining the problem

  • Goals, Objectives, Interventions

  • Tracking Progress

  • Common challenges in Treatment planning

  • PRACTICE OPPORTUNITIES

Course learning objectives include:

  • Define a treatment plan. 

  • Identify parts of a treatment plan. 

  • Increase ability to construct treatment plans. 

  • Identify and resolve common challenges in treatment planning. 

After the video, you will also receive access to a progress note checklist to use to ensure that your progress notes are formatted to track client progress. These checklists are based on Medicaid documentation requirements and meet the guidelines for most commercial insurance record-keeping requirements. However, we encourage you to consult your contracts to ensure that you are in compliance with any contracts you hold.
This course is formatted to include a video webinar, a post-test quiz to review content, and an end-of-course evaluation, where you will be able to request a CE certificate for records. All parts of the course must be completed. The course post-test and evaluation are the only aspects of interactivity required for course completion. (Course certificates will be sent to the email address provided within five business days of the competition of the course.)

The post test as well as the end-of-course evaluation are required elements for course completion and participants will not receive a course certificate without the completion of these items. Participants must submit a post-test at least an 80% correct rate to fulfill this requirement. Multiple attempts to achieve an 80% passing score are permitted.

This course meets the criteria for 1 CE.

This course meets the criteria for TX BHEC continuing education and is compliant with all standards of the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.

About the presenter

Kasey Shaw Salyer, LCSW-S, Board-Approved Supervisor, EMDR Therapist, and Approved Consultant

Kasey earned her master’s of social work from Baylor University. She started her therapy career working with victims of crime and abuse through a nonprofit. Kasey has worked in various outpatient capacities and currently owns and practices at Salyer Counseling Group in Arlington, TX. She has gained specialized training in complex trauma, dissociation, and early trauma and neglect. Kasey is passionate about service and understanding clients with complex trauma needs and equipping and supporting the development of other therapists in this area.

Furthermore, as a board-approved supervisor, Kasey is passionate about equipping other therapists with the skills and information to practice ethically and confidently in their therapeutic practice.
