For EMDR therapists – Building your EMDR therapy network
Being an EMDR therapist is hard work. The nature of the work that we do as EMDR therapists requires that we spend many hours of our week in the midst of trauma, pain, and emotional suffering with our clients. There are many reasons why building a quality EMDR therapy network is important.
For longevity is an EMDR clinician, it is helpful to have other EMDR therapist to process and consults with tough
It’s important to have referrals for family members of clients to avoid dual relationships
We often get asked by individuals in our own circles of family and friends, who they can see EMDR therapy from.
The more quality, EMDR therapists, we know in a professional and personal capacity, the greater ability we have to serve our clients and our communities.
How do you go about developing a quality EMDR therapist network? Here are a few options to consider:
Consultation Groups:
EMDR therapy training is based on one of the core principles of consultation with other therapists. This can be done in an individual or group capacity. Choosing to participate in group consultations can be a great way to connect with other therapists, and learn about their professional skills, and Bill, professional relationships while learning and growing in your own EMDR therapy abilities.
Peer Support Groups:
While these are not available everywhere, peer support groups do often exist on a regional basis, offering individuals the opportunity to connect with other EMDR therapists in a less formal capacity. These peer support groups often provide time for networking and relationship building while consulting on challenging cases or practicing new skill sets.
Attending EMDRIA Advanced Trainings:
Training with other clinicians is another great way to connect, learn with, and build relationships with other EMDR therapists that are committed to learning and growing in their EMDR practice. Whether you have the ability to attend a local in person, advanced, EMDR training, or you attend online webinars, these trainings provide opportunities to connect with other individuals who are committed to there and advance your practice as well. Just be sure to look for the phrase “EMDRIA Approved” on the training information.
As an EMDR consultant, an EMDR therapist, and an advocate for the amazing work of EMDR therapy, it’s safe to say that we are truly better together. Make it a goal this year to expand your EMDR referral network to gain support for your practice and the quality referrals that you make for EMDR therapy.
