3 Questions to Consider when Selecting Advanced EMDRIA CEUs
Are you an EMDR therapist? Have you gone to the extent of taking an EMDRIA-approved basic training course and now you are eager to learn more? Or maybe you are nearing the end of your EMDRIA certification process and you are ready to earn your EMDRIA approved CEU hours for your certification application. Or maybe you are just eager to learn more about how EMDR therapy can help your clients. Whatever your why, welcome. As an EMDRIA-approved consultant, I am often asked the question about what EMDRIA continuing education course I think is best, and there are lots of options to choose from. But here are a few questions to consider as you are selecting the next parts of your EMDR therapy education.
How confident do you feel in practicing EMDR therapy with your current clients?
There are many fun and exciting specialties and courses within the realm of EMDR therapy and EMDR education. And while it can be tempting to dive into a course that sounds exciting or is trending on the online chat forums, all EMDR therapy is built upon the basic principles and concepts learned in EMDR therapy basic training courses. If you are not confident in how to treatment plan and process EMDR targets with the vast majority of your current clients, it may be worth your time to take advanced training courses that are still centered on expanding your knowledge and use of EMDR therapy in a standard protocol or more general format. If treatment planning and target processing is starting to become second nature to you, it could be a great time to learn a new protocol in EMDR therapy!
Has your practice developed a niche?
As a supervisor, I often tell my newer therapist “You will get the clients you need.” And as an EMDR therapy consultant, I have seen this happen time and time again. It is very common for themes to start to present themselves within our caseload. And when a theme presents, this may be a great time to invest time and energy in honing your skills and expertise in a specific population.
What direction do you want your practice to go?
Advanced EMDR training CEUs are a great way to direct your practice and attract clients that you want to work with. By specializing in a specific population, developing credibility with certain diagnoses, or honing your skills with specific demographics, you can often direct your training toward the clients that you would most like to collect on your caseload. Use these courses as an investment in yourself as an EMDR therapist and in the practice you desire to develop.
